On Monday 15th February, Gavin Biggs and Georgia Evershed (Head Boy and Head Girl at Berkeley Campus) attended the National Student Leadership Team day at Exchange Place. The day included campus presentations, motivational speeches, group discussions and a debate on the topic of whether Britain should remain in the EU. The day was a great success and enjoyed by all.
The day began with a short introduction followed by live streaming from Australia in which the present Head Boy and Head Girl of Australia spoke about their experiences. This was followed by a short break before the individual school presentations began. The campus speeches covered all aspects of each school such as achievements, what had been happening and what the future plans for the school were. During the presentations, students had to rate companions on speaking and leadership skills before deciding on eight suitable candidates to fill the role of Regional Head Boy and Girl for each region (North, East, West and Europe).
Once this had ended and after a delicious lunch of lasagne, they began group discussions in which tables of 10 students came up with four common frustrations to overcome and three goals to work towards. After this extremely inspiring and helpful activity they were treated to debate from six expert panellists including the well-known Nelson Ker.
The day finished as it had begun with speeches from various members of the NSLT however we were not told who had been elected regional Head Boy and Girl till the following Friday. For our region this is Wyatt Steedman and Casey Markham and our Student Leadership Team look forward to working well with them. We would like to give a huge thank you to all those at NSLT for organising such a memorable, inspiring and helpful occasion.
